Project Ping Pong

(Daniel and his five droogs. ;-) )

The kids of Vila Marian wished to have a Ping Pong Table for a long time, but when you want to buy one, your wallet will weigh much less than before. For us there were just one way: Build it ourself! And in fact this is more cool and better for everything! Think a second, and you'll know why: The kids have to plan and organize a lot, compare prices for tools and wood, buy and carry everything, use tools and improvise for solve spontanious problems. And when it's finished, the kids are more proud of themself and they probably increases some skills. So this project is perfect for an EVS with youngsters.

By asking a big merchant of Slobozia for free wood for the legs and pieces for stability, we saved a lot of money, and the children should know now, that they can get something for free, when they are brave enough to ask! For the rest of money we had to make an official list of tools and materials we needed with exactly prices. An educator had to sign this list, which in fact was a letter for the director of our Organisation, who had to accept our request for support of 50 Euro (for the whole table)! He did, so our project was official!

To have the greatest success, all responsibilities have to be on the side of the youngsters. In our case, everyone was so motivated and excited, that they really wanted to have the ping pong table as soon as possible! So with a little bit of generosity it was understandable, that the educators work on our table, too, when they had free time.

One day I invited a real engineer to help us by giving good advices and talk and explain good things (mathematical steps for example) to the children. In the end the table wasn't completely like our plans, but nevertheless it's a cool one!

And we have a lot of fun with it!
